Kiln Dried Logs

Kiln Dried Logs

Premium Kiln-Dried Hardwood Logs & Firewood Delivery | Your Family Merchant Since 1922

Sourced From Sustainably Managed British Woodland — Dried Below 15% Moisture

At Larkins Fuel Merchants, we are proud to be your local area suppliers of Certainly Wood, the pioneers of kiln drying. We supply only the finest premium quality kiln-dried logs and natural firewood types across Norfolk and Suffolk. Our dense British hardwoods offer an exceptionally long burn time and powerful heat output—producing significantly less smoke and up to 50% more energy than standard damp, unseasoned wood logs.

🌲 An Established Regional Partnership: Nigel recognised the shift toward cleaner solid fuel early on, securing our premier wholesale partnership with Certainly Wood back in 2011. As one of the very first independent fuel merchants in the region to specialise in true kiln-dried firewood, our family knows exactly how to help your household achieve the absolute best fireside performance out of your wood-burning stove.

  • ✅ Standard Log Sizes: Cut to an approximate 25cm (10") length—guaranteed to fit 99% of all UK wood-burning stoves, including major brands like Charnwood, Clearview, and Stovax.
  • ✅ Ultra-Dry Core Target: While UK regulations specify a limit of under 20% moisture, our logs are dried to 10–15% for powerful heat output and crystal-clear stove door glass.
  • ✅ Certified Quality: Fully DEFRA and HETAS approved, carrying the Grown in Britain badge and the official Ready to Burn certification.

The Hardwood Mix: Quality Value vs. Seasoned Firewood

We supply a premium, dense blend of Ash, Beech, and Oak, along with Birch nets and Pine Softwood nets directly to your property across our regular weekly rounds.

🔍 The Larkins Verdict on Birch Logs: Silver birch is a superb, medium-density hardwood that catches fire quickly and creates a beautiful, bright ambient flame. It is highly prized across our region for its quick heat throw and clean burn, making it the ultimate fuel for smaller stoves or quick evening fires. For deep-winter heating without constant reloading, stepping up to our dense British Ash, Beech, and Oak logs offers maximum wood density.

🔍 The Larkins Verdict on Softwood Pine: Kiln-dried pine nets are specifically produced for their unmatched ignition speed. Resinous pine logs catch fire instantly and throw out a rapid, intense heat—making them the ultimate companion to bring your home appliance up to peak operating temperature quickly. Using pine logs to establish your roaring firebed saves your heavy, dense hardwoods for the main duration of the fire.

🔍 The Larkins Verdict on Seasoned Hardwood: Standard seasoned wood is left to dry naturally and will likely retain a moisture level over 20%. This means your wood burner spends its primary energy boiling off trapped internal water rather than heating your room, creating heavy soot and blackening your stove glass panel. Our premium British Ash, Beech, and Oak logs are kiln-dried down to an ultra-low 10–15% moisture level, catching instantly and burning significantly hotter and cleaner.

Firestarting Essentials: For a One-Match Start

To get the absolute most out of our premium logs, you need a rapid, high-heat start. We recommend these Certainly Wood essentials for a hassle-free fire every time:

  • ⚡ The KindleFlamer: A cleverly designed all-in-one firelighter. These extra-long cobs burn intensely for 15 minutes and completely eliminate the need for loose kindling sticks altogether. Available in handy 18 or 50-pack boxes.

📊 Merchant's Tip: How Much Firewood Do I Need?

Your exact winter fuel volume depends directly on your usage:

  • 1–2 Fires a Month: 10–20 individual bags will easily see your hearth through the winter.
  • Weekly Burning: One 1.2m³ bulk bag typically covers a standard winter supply.
  • Daily Heating: Expect to use two or more of our maximum-value 1.6m³ bulk bags.

📊 The Ecodesign Efficiency Boost

Your choice of stove design directly changes how much wood you will stack each winter:

  • Older Stoves: Traditional stove models typically burn through 3 to 4 cubic metres of hardwood a year to maintain regular winter warmth.
  • Modern Ecodesign Stoves: Modern stoves with efficient air controls cut down your firewood use. Because they retain and radiate heat so efficiently, your winter supply drops drastically to just 1.5 to 2 cubic metres total.

Kiln-Dried Logs: Frequently Asked Questions

Which hardwood species do you supply, and what is the difference between them?

We supply a premium blend of native British hardwoods consisting of Ash, Beech, and Oak across our traditional individual and bulk bag ranges, alongside handy net bags of locally sourced specialty Kiln-Dried Birch and Softwood Pine:

  • Ash (Traditional Blend): The ultimate fireside all-rounder. It lights incredibly quickly and sets a rapid, steady firebed for daily burning.
  • Beech (Traditional Blend): Features a beautiful, tall, bright orange flame with a powerful radiant heat output.
  • Oak (Traditional Blend): Our densest hardwood. It takes the longest to ignite but burns down the slowest, providing a fierce, deeply sustained bed of coals perfect for long-lasting winter fires.
  • Birch Hardwood (Convenient Nets): A superb, medium-density timber packed tightly inside breathable nets of exactly 12 logs. Catches fire quickly with a beautiful bright flame and an immediate radiant heat output.
  • Pine Softwood (Convenient Nets): Resinous pine logs processed systematically below 15% moisture for unmatched ignition speed. Exceptional for starting up your firebed or outdoor summer fire pits.

What happens if my logs get rained on?

Don't worry at all. Because our wood is deeply kiln-dried right to the core, any surface moisture from a quick downpour will evaporate rapidly within a few days in a well-ventilated storage space. The internal wood quality and high-heat burning performance are never affected.

What is the best way to store my kiln-dried logs to keep them in perfect condition?

Kiln-dried wood is a natural material that thrives on continuous airflow. You should store your logs in a dry, well-ventilated space like a wooden log store, garage, or outhouse out of the direct weather. Avoid storing them in airtight plastic storage containers or wrapping them tightly under heavy tarpaulins without gaps, as trapped condensation will cause the wood to sweat and grow surface mould.

How do your bulk bags compare to standard builders' bags?

There is a massive difference in real volume. Standard internet or builders' merchants drop bags that are only 0.7m³. Our value bulk bags (1.2m³ and 1.6m³) are nearly double that size, giving you significantly more hardwood logs for your fuel money.

What makes Larkins logs different from national online suppliers?

National courier networks drop heavy, oversized pallets right on the roadside kerb and leave you to deal with the heavy lifting. We use our own specialised, compact 3.5-tonne delivery trucks to back into tight driveways and navigate narrow rural lanes across Norfolk and Suffolk. Best of all, on all our individual bag deliveries, we shoulder every bag and neatly hand-stack your fuel right into your dry log store or garage as our standard service.

Can I burn scrap pallets or treated wood in my stove?

We strongly advise against it. Treated, painted, or glued wood (like old pallets and fencing) releases highly toxic chemical fumes and deposits corrosive tar inside your flue. This can permanently ruin your stove liners and drastically increase your risk of a sudden chimney fire.

🧂 Take the Weight Off: Water Softener Salt

Many local homes running premium wood burners also rely on water softeners to clear out East Anglia's hard water. Protect your household plumbing system and appliances from limescale without any of the heavy lifting.

Our traditional hand-stacking service applies to our entire salt range too. We will personally shoulder and carry your blocks or tablet bags straight into your utility room, kitchen cupboard, or garage store alongside your log bags. It is the smartest way to clear your local delivery minimums in one go.
